Women in Bluegrass
In 1998 Murphy Henry was invited to give the keynote address at the International Bluegrass Music Association's annual World of Bluegrass convention. She talked about women's role in bluegrass from the beginning (Sally Ann Forrester) through the present and beyond. It was a darn good speech. You can read the full text here.
Women in Bluegrass was an 8 to 10 page newsletter, created and edited by Murphy Henry, that focused exclusively on women in bluegrass. It was published pretty much 4 times a year from 1994 through 2003. Publication was suspended when Murphy started writing her book on women in bluegrass, which she is still working on. Each issue featured a lengthy interview, profile, or essay as well as an introduction from the editor, several shorter articles, and reader letters.
